Australia abolished a Visa Programme used by over 95,000 temporary foreign workers, majority of them Indians. The Programme known as 457 visa allows business to employ foreign workers for a period up to four years in skilled jobs where there is a shortage of Australian workers. The existing 457 visa program is conducted for a period of four years, but essentially it is open-ended, and it results, in many cases, in a migration outcome. It is proposed that under the temporary skills shortage visa short-term stream there will be a two-year visa, with the options of two years, but there won't be permanent residency outcomes at the end of that. The new program for 457 is likely to come into force by March 2018.
The Australian Government wishes to promote the skilled immigration programs in the year 2017-18 as the sub class 457 was subjected to misuse. The government wants skilled professionals to enter the country on a Permanent Residency status after meeting all requirements of qualifying.
• Skilled Professionals from IT, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Architects, Hospitality, Teachers, Professors and many more are eligible to apply for a Permanent Residency.
• Skilled Independent migration-Subclass 189- Permanent residency for 5 years which allows you live, work & settle along with family in Australia.
• State & Territory nominated independent migration-Subclass190- Conditional PR for 5 years. Initial 2 years you live & work in a state and later you can live anywhere across Australia.
The above 2 categories are the most preferred for Australia Immigration. However we have 2 more other categories under immigration programs to Australia.
Skilled Independent regional migration 489 & Skilled designated area sponsorship which is a relative sponsorship.
This is the right time to initiate your Australia migration process as the turnaround time may be lesser than envisaged. And indeed, there is reason to believe that the government is favoring Skilled Independent immigration for the year 2017-18.
